Summary:
Sophia and Maddi get hungry after lots of rigorous outdoor play. They run to Maddi’s house where Sophia is shocked to see that Maddi’s fridge is empty except for a bottle of milk. Maddi is embarrassed and asks Sophia to keep it a secret.  At first, Sophia honors Maddi’s request to not tell anyone - instead she brings extra food to school to share with her friend. After a few unsuccessful attempts, Sophia finds the kind of food Maddi wants, a burrito!  Finally, Sophia’s conscience tells her to talk to her mom, and together they pack bags with food and take it to Maddi’s house - a very happy ending and a new chapter in the story of Maddi’s and Sophia’s friendship! 

Lesson Objectives: 

1. Students grow their awareness of the needs of others - some families can’t afford to buy food. Students are motivated to contribute to the local food bank and look for other ways to help those in need. 
2. Students understand more about friendship, that sometimes, if we pay attention, we can help our friends in very special ways, like Sophia did in this story.
