Definition: Patience means having self-control, waiting and enduring when one would rather not. In short: Stay calm while you wait. Summary: Danny has different options as he meets challenges in his life. The narrator describes what happens to Danny as he responds to these difficult situations. Danny finds that it’s almost impossible to exercise self-control. He learns that when he’s not patient, he really doesn’t like the consequences.    Lesson Objectives:
  1. Students are encouraged to pause and reflect when faced with choices. They discuss the mistakes Danny made and brainstorm different options he had to make better choices. This helps them gain insight into how to make good choices. 
  Guiding questions: 
  1. What are some of Danny’s favorite things? Are some of them your favorite things, too? Which ones? 
  2. What are some of Danny’s super skills? 
  3. Danny’s dad says that the most important super power is …? What does Danny’s dad do to help him remember that super power? 
  4.  What was the first choice Danny had, and what happened when he made the bad choice? What would have been a better choice? 
  5. What happened when Danny broke his brother’s track? After he grabbed the controller? 
  6. Talk about what Danny could have done differently when he lost self-control.
  7. When is it hard for you to use self-control? 
  8. Talk about a time when you weren’t able to be patient and it got you in trouble.
  9. What could you tell yourself when you start to lose self-control and need a reminder to be patient? 
  10.  Why do you think it’s important to be patient?
