Guiding Questions for Parents.

Definition: Patience means having self-control, waiting and enduring when one would rather not. In short: Stay calm while you wait. Summary: Impulsive Ninja struggles with following the school rules, does inappropriate things for attention, makes risky choices, and has trouble taking turns. Patient Ninja helps him activate an important superpower - his “Superpower of Pause” - ,  and when he uses it, he is able to feel good about the decisions he makes.   Lesson Objectives:
  1. Students are prompted daily by their teacher to  activate their “Superpower of Pause” and as a result, they are able to be less impulsive in their behavior.
  Guiding Questions:
  1. What does the word “impulsive mean”? Can you give an example of an action that is impulsive?
  2. “I took time to think about what I should say” - why is this a good idea, especially when you feel like getting mad at someone?
  3. What does the word “consequences” mean?
  4. What are some situations in the story when Impulsive Ninja didn’t think before acting impulsively?
  5. What is a “Superpower of Pause”?
  6. Think of a typical situation in which you need to pause. Imagine it’s happening now. Count to ten slowly. Did that help you calm down?
  7.  Is it hard for you to wait for another student who is using equipment on the playground that you want to use? What could you tell yourself to think about or what action could you take instead of demanding they let you use it immediately?
  8.  If everyone has the Superpower of Pause why do you think so many people act impulsively?
  9.  Can you think of someone who has irritating behavior? What is the behavior and how can you nicely ask them to stop?
  10. Try to use your Superpower of Pause for one day either at home or at school. Was it difficult or easy for you? What happened?
🌿   Virtue Connection: Patience means waiting without losing yourself.
