Summary:
This short, funny book about a boy named David helps teachers talk about rules (especially at the beginning of the school year). Even though the story is told in very simple language, it is appropriate for five to seven year olds. Kids like David can have many challenges when it comes to following school rules. Students will laugh and learn as they read about David’s mistakes on a very bad day when he does everything wrong. 

Lesson Objectives: 

1. Students will be more aware of school rules as they discuss the rules covered in the story, why they are important, and the consequences for not following them. 
2. They will review the definition of respect: to be polite and kind to others; take care of nature and all things. They will understand that rules are made to help us all show respect for one another and things.

2. Do you think the author, who is also called David, is talking about himself when he was a kid? 
3. Why do you think David keeps breaking rules? Is it because he forgets or is it because he doesn’t like following rules? Or both?
