Summary:
A new student named Farah joins her class on a field trip to a farm. Her home country and her new country are very different. She’s the only one at her school with a head scarf and she doesn't speak any English. Farah shares her thoughts about  this new experience as her class goes out to the apple orchard on a farm wagon. Even though so much is new, there are some things that are the same. She enjoys making apple cider with a couple of students, and begins to open up enough to say her first English word, apple. This story is a simple, yet powerful reminder that in spite of external differences, we are all part of the same amazing and wonderful human family.

5. Do you think Farah feels more hopeful after the field trip that she will eventually learn English and make friends at her new school? 
6. If someone like Farah came to your school, would you introduce yourself and try to get to know her?  
7. Do you think it’s hard to learn a new language that’s very different from your own? Why or why not? 
8. Have you ever visited an orchard, ridden in a wagon, or made apple cider? If not, does it sound like something you’d enjoy?
