Summary: This beautifully illustrated book explains in poetic format why a girl loves trees so much. Readers learn a lot about how trees grow and survive and how they help us. The author encourages us to plant and take care of trees.  Trees are full of wonder and magic!    Lesson Objectives:
  1. Students are motivated to learn more about the fascinating facts about trees and how to enjoy and protect them.  
  Guiding Questions:
  1. When the story starts with “I’d like to introduce you to a dear old friend I know”, did you know right away what they meant? 
  2. What’s an interesting thing that some trees do in the fall? 
  3. What do trees give us that we need in order to breathe? 
  4. What are some of the things we use that are made out of wood? 
  5. Have you ever played on a tree, climbed one, or picked fruits or nuts from one? Can you share what it was like?  
  6. Too many trees are cut down, so what can we do to help? 
  7. Have you ever planted a tree? If not, would you like to? Ask someone to help you find seeds or a sapling (young tree), find a place to plant it, dig a hole, and take care of it.  
  8. Do you have a favorite kind of tree? If so, what is it and why do you like it? 
  9. Look around your house or classroom. What do you see that’s made of wood? Where did the wood come from? 
  10. Next time you see a tree, give it a hug and say “thank you!”
