Definition: Integrity means being honest, and responsible and respectful all the time, whether or not people can see what you’re doing.  In short: Do the right thing, even when no one's looking.   Summary: Toby the Tractor Loader has an accident on the farm and he immediately blames a cow for knocking over the hay bale. Toby struggles with feelings of guilt after lying to his dad about the accident he caused. As the day goes on, he forgets about his guilt when he finds a tool on the ground. His friend Buddy says it looks like the one he lost. Toby lies and claims it belongs to him.  After another lie, burdened by guilty feelings, Toby finally decides to tell the truth to his friend and his dad. Lesson learned, Toby feels much better!    Lesson Objectives:
  1. Students talk about how when a person lies, they don’t feel good until they straighten it out by telling the truth. 
  Guiding Questions: 
  1. What happened to Toby the Front Loader in the beginning of the story? 
  2. Who knocked over the hay bale, and what did Toby tell his dad? 
  3. Why did Toby feel guilty? 
  4. What did Toby do when he found a tool he really liked? Do you think he did the right thing? 
  5. Do you think his friend Buddy knew Toby was lying about the tool? 
  6. What did Toby tell his dad when he didn’t feel like helping do the chores? Was he telling the truth? 
  7. Why did Toby finally decide to apologize to his friend and his dad? 
  8. Have you ever felt guilty about something? What does it feel like in your body? Does your stomach hurt? Does your throat hurt? Do you feel like being alone? 
  9. What could you do if you tell a lie and don’t want to feel guilty anymore? 
  10. If you find something that isn’t yours, what should you do?
