Summary:
The island is small, but full of wonder. In a conversation between a cat that is visiting the island, and a fish, it is concluded that the island is a part of a landmass that covers the whole earth - we don’t see how it connects to the continents because it’s very far underneath all the water.  There are many life forms that call the island home, insects like fireflies, migrating birds, trees, and different kinds of plants. The island changes as the seasons come and go:  “It was good to be a little island. A part of the world and a world of its own all surrounded by the bright blue sea.”

Lesson Objectives: 

1. After listening to this story students will demonstrate understanding of the word “wonder.” They will be able to talk about the things they experience that are full of wonder. 
2. This book could be a link to a geology lesson about the layers of the earth, and landforms.

5. Name some of the insects and animals on the island that fly. 
6. Did it snow on the island? What was it like when it was stormy?
