Guiding Questions for Parents

Definition:

Integrity means being honest, and responsible and respectful all the time, whether or not people can see what you’re doing.

In short:

Do the right thing, even when no one's looking.

Summary:
This video illustrates the virtues of honesty and integrity through a boy who starts a conversation with a wise talking tree. The wise tree explains to the boy what a conscience is and how its function is to remind us when we’re about to make bad choices and when we’ve already made a bad choice. The boy also learns that it’s important to not try to hide our bad behaviors - we may think it’s ok to do wrong when we think no one’s watching but it’s not.

Lesson Objectives:

  1. Students will be more inclined to value honesty and integrity, choosing not to hide mistakes or behaviors that go against the conscience or sense of rightness.

Guiding Questions:

  1. Why did the boy go behind the tree?
  2. What story did the tree tell the boy about his daddy?
  3. What did the tree tell the boy about making mistakes?
  4. What kind of mistakes do you make and how do you feel when that happens?
  5. The boy’s dad didn’t get caught when he tried to hide his mistake so why wasn’t he glad when he succeeded in hiding?
  6. Why is it important to do the right thing?
  7. Do you have a memory of doing the right thing? What happened?
  8. Why is it important to forgive yourself when you make a mistake?
  9. Are you able to forgive others when they make mistakes? Why or why not?
  10. Ask a family member if they will tell you a story about when they made a mistake.
🌿   Virtue Connection: Integrity means doing what is right even when no one is watching.
