Before, During & After Reading

Guiding Questions for Parents.

Definition: Integrity means being honest, and responsible and respectful all the time, whether or not people can see what you’re doing.  In short: Do the right thing, even when no one's looking.     Summary: When Finn tells fibs, little “blobs” appear, visible only to Finn. Fibb is bothered by the blobs and also the feelings he has when he tells fibs. Once he decides to tell the truth, the annoying blobs disappear, life is even better than normal, and now Finn knows what to do when he’s tempted to lie.     Lesson Objectives:
  1. Students understand Finn’s challenges and consequently they choose to do what Finn did when he decided to always tell the truth, even when it hurts.
  Guiding Questions:
  1. What does Finn like about visits to Grandma’s house?
  2. What lie did Finn tell his Grandma?
  3. Why do you think he lied?
  4.  Do you think Finn kept lying because he got away with it once?
  5. Do you think Finn’s Grandma knew Finn was lying or not?
  6. Why did more and more blobs arrive as Finn kept fibbing?
  7. What’s the one thing Finn could do to make the blobs and bad feelings go away?
  8. Ask your parents to share with you about a time when they told a lie. What happened and why did they fib?
  9. How do you feel when someone lies to you?
  10. Why do you think most people feel good when they tell the truth, even though it may be embarrassing to admit telling a lie?
