Definition:

Integrity means being honest, and responsible and respectful all the time, whether or not people can see what you’re doing. 

In short:

Do the right thing, even when no one's looking. 

Summary:
Shaina lives in a village that is going through hard times. Shops don’t have customers and everyone is suffering from poverty. One day she finds a lost chicken, discovers the owner’s name, and promises to take care of Yevka until the owner returns. When she refuses to let anyone kill and eat the chicken and her eggs, the eggs hatch and the flock grows. At first the villagers criticize her for defending the chicken, because they are annoyed by the expanding flock. But when visitors are attracted to the village because of the unusual huge flock of chickens, the shops prosper. Finally the owner comes to the village, identifies Yevka, his long lost chicken, and generously donates the whole flock to the town. Because of Shaina’s integrity, the town is grateful and prosperous.

1. People were very poor in the village where Shaina lived and the shops weren’t making any money. Do you think the people who lived there were unhappy? Why?

3. How did Shaina figure out the chicken’s owner and what did she believe she should do about it?

5. Shaina told her family that they couldn’t eat the eggs that the chicken laid. What happened to the eggs? 
6. When the chickens scattered all over the village, what did Shaina tell the villagers? 
7. Do you think Shaina was right or not? If you were Shaina, what do you think you’d do?  
8. Have you ever been criticized when you were trying to do the right thing? 
9. Sometimes a situation starts out badly but surprisingly, it ends well because someone did the right thing. Can you think of a time when that happened to you?
