Activity: Students play a game about making choices. They listen to several scenarios in which the character Sam has to make a decision. As each situation is described, students respond by giving a thumbs up or thumbs down.

 

Materials needed: the video

 

Directions: Explain: “Today we will play a game called “Making Good Choices.” As you watch the video, respond to each situation in which Sam has to make a choice using thumbs up or thumbs down. Thumbs up means you think he’s making a good choice. Thumbs down means you think he’s making a bad choice. I will pause the video after each scenario so you can have some time to think about the choices with which Sam is presented and give your response.” Show the video, pausing whenever necessary to give students a chance to think about the choices. If you think students will benefit from discussing certain  situations, give enough time for that as you show the video.  

 

Wrap it up: Explain: “A person of integrity feels good about themselves because they take time to think about the consequences of their actions and make good choices as a result - they pause, think about what the right choice is, then act. Sam in the video faces a lot of situations that may seem familiar to you because you’ve probably had to make some of the same choices. So a good lesson to remember is to pause before making a decision, make the right choice, and feel good about yourself that you did!
