Materials needed: the resource video; a an erasable white board that looks like this: _____________(who) is going ___________(where) ____________ (how)____________(when)______________(why) Directions: Explain that students will play a curiosity game to help them remember question words: who , where, how, when, and why. Show them the white board and tell them they will help you fill in the blanks and they will make sentences together. Ask students to volunteer ideas for each question word in the sentence, pick a response, write it on the blank line, then read the completed sentence once all the blanks are filled. Erase the sentence and start all over again. Encourage students to think of all kinds of responses, the funnier the better! Here’s an example of a completed sentence. Susan is going to schoolon a donkey at 8:00 this morning because she wants to be on time. Wrap it up: “This was a fun way to learn more about the question words: who, where, how, when, and why. You’re getting really good at remembering these questions! Some of our sentences were very funny, weren’t they? Let’s remember to ask questions when we want to learn something new.
