Tell the Truth, Be You!
1st & 2nd Grade
Resource: Tell the Truth, Be You! | Fun Kids Song About Honesty & Integrity | Positive Music for Children
Activity: Students listen to the music video and discuss its content about telling the truth. They go over the lyrics in the chorus (or the whole song) written on a story board or sentence strip posting board. They watch the video again and try to copy the motions of the characters singing the songs.
Materials needed: the video; space for kids to act out the motions in the song; a story board or sentence strip posting board with the lines from the chorus
Lyrics of the chorus from “Tell the Truth, Be You!
I tell the truth. I’m brave and true. I do what’s right, even when no one’s in sight. I shine a light! I stand so strong, I know what’s wrong, I choose what’s good like heroes do. Tell the truth, be you.
Directions: Introduce the topic of honesty and integrity. Ask students to define those words and give examples. Show the video. Use a story board with sentence strips to go over the words in the chorus, inviting students to memorize it. Play the video again, and ask students to stand and copy the motions of the characters in the video as they sing along. If there’s time, play it again so they can memorize more of the song.
Wrap up: Conclude: “Thank you for participating in this music video. Can you name some of the suggestions from the video about being honest and having integrity? I’ll post the lyrics of the chorus so we can refer to them when we need to. Let’s sing and dance to the video again next week so we don’t forget what we learned! “
