Activity: Invite the class to sit down in a circle. Tell students that today’s lesson is about respect. Ask them to give some examples of respect by providing a prompt: I show respect when I…(fill in the blank). Remind them of the definition of respect: caring about others by using good manners and showing kindness. Using the board with the sentence strips, go over the lyrics of the rap song about respect. Say a line and ask them to say it after you. Tell them to stand up, face the video, and get ready to try to copy the actions of the performer during the chorus and sing along. Play the video and have some fun!
Wrap it up: Conclude the activity with a short discussion on what they learned about showing respect. Leave the board with the lyrics up and revisit for literacy lessons during the week. Reinforce the lesson about respect by repeating the rap song activity.
