Directions: Explain: “Have you ever had to deal with the problem of making a mistake? Was it hard to summon the courage to keep pursuing whatever it was that you were trying so hard to achieve? [listen to some responses] Today we will watch a video about a girl who has a growth mindset that gives her the courage to try new things, make mistakes, learn from our mistakes, make new goals, and keep trying. After watching the video, I’ll put you with a partner to discuss what a “growth mindset” is, so listen carefully!” Show the video, pair the students and give them 3 - 5 minutes to talk about what a growth mindset is and how it shows up (or not) in their own lives. Give a signal when it’s the second person’s turn to share. Bring the class together and lead them in a discussion about courage and having a growth mindset. Ask them to share their own experiences with this.
Wrap it up: Conclude with encouraging words about developing a growth mindset, how important it is to not let your mistakes hold you back from pursuing your dreams. Revisit the topic of having a “growth mindset” especially when students are struggling with their academic performance, behavior issues, or relationship challenges.
