Directions: Introduce the topic of compassion and love. Remind students about the definition of compassion: it is the ability to feel what others are feeling and the action of trying to help them with their troubles. Tell students the title of the song and ask them what they think it means: “Why do you end up having more, if you give love away?” and “What are some of the ways we can show love and compassion through our actions and words? “ Show the video, encouraging students to try to sing along. Invite students to make up actions to go with the song. This is a great performance song for special school events!
Wrap it up: Ask, “When you look around you here at school, at home, in your community, and in the world, do you think people are mostly happy or not and why? Do you think we could all use more love and compassion? Can you think of something that would be better if there was more love and compassion everywhere? I think we can all agree with the message of this song - what the world needs now is more love and compassion, and when we show that we care, we get more back than what we gave.
