Kids Yoga For Gratitude

Open External Resource →
Activity: Students follow the video, doing yoga poses as they listen to the story about self-respect and accepting ourselves for our own uniqueness.

Materials: video; space and mats or a carpet for all students to do yoga poses

Directions: Explain that today’s activity is to challenge us to follow a yoga’s instructor’s poses as she tells a story about being grateful for one’s own unique specialness. Arrange students so they have space to do the poses. Ask if any students have ever done any yoga. Explain that yoga is a form of exercise. Tell students: “Do your best to copy the instructor’s poses while listening to the story.” At the end of the video, review the story by asking comprehension questions. Ask, “what does it mean when she says, ‘We are the best at being ourselves.’”

Wrap it up: Conclude with some questions: “How did you like the yoga poses? Was it hard or easy to copy the poses? What were the hardest and easiest poses? What was the message of the story? Can you think of ways to remind yourself that you are the best at being yourself?”
