Directions: Explain: “Today we will watch a video that shares a story about a 7th grader who is faced with choices about doing the right thing. You’ll see from his story that doing the right thing isn’t always easy, especially when dealing with a bully. But it’s worth all the trouble you might go through - you’ll learn that making good choices can help you solve the problem.” Show the video, pausing to discuss the challenging choices the narrator has to make. Use some guiding questions during the discussion: (1) The narrator says that it became harder to do the right thing when he got older - do you agree with this, and is that true for you? (2) How do you think you’d handle the bully Chuck? (3) The narrator explains that cheating is wrong - what does he say about it? (4) What were the consequences for the bully? (5) What did the narrator’s parents think about the actions of their son?
Wrap it up: Explain that doing the right thing may be very difficult, as illustrated in the video. Fortunately, the narrator had parents who encouraged him to make good choices, friends who gave him good advice, a teacher who listened to him, and a school administrator who communicated with both boys, got the whole story, and informed the parents. Ask students to think about who they might tell if they had some difficult choices to make, and offer your support to anyone who may be dealing with a difficult situation.
