Courage #3

1st & 2nd Grade

3-Year-Old Angelica Recreates Katy Perry's 'Roar' Music Video!

Activity: Students watch the video

Materials needed: the video; pictures of tigers (optional); materials for making tiger masks

Optional activity: Tiger face mask | how to make tiger face mask | animal mask making #mask #animalmask

Directions: Introduce the video and ask the students to listen carefully to the words of the song. Talk about the message of courage in “Roar” - explain that it encourages us to remember that we are tigers, champions with a loud “roar.” Emphasize that we forget our roar when we’re scared. When that happens we can remember this song and it’ll remind us how strong we are inside. Present the chart with the lyrics and go over it line by line, pausing to check for comprehension. Practice the song a few times and memorize this line, “I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar!”

Wrap it up: Address the students: “Students, you are now officially tigers with a loud roar inside of you! Let me hear one loud roar on the count of three! [pause for the response] Whenever you get scared, say to yourself over and over again,  “I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar!”
