Optional: this is a great song for kids to dramatize and perform.
Materials needed: the video; space for movement standing up or sitting down - or students can remain at their desks
Directions: Invite students to learn a new song about responsibility. Explain that the word “responsibility”means doing your best to take care of things, yourself, and other people, without complaining. Lead them in a discussion about what they do to show that they are responsible at school, at home, and in the community. Show the video then brainstorm with students to make up actions that go with the song. After a couple of tries, students should be able to memorize the words and actions, and possibly perform it for an audience.
Wrap it up: Explain that the purpose of this lesson is to help us remember to be responsible, respectful, safe, and to treat others the way you want to be treated. Tell students that they will be practicing this song again so they can memorize it. When students are observed being responsible and treating others nicely, point it out with a comment like, “I can see that you are becoming responsible - you put all the books back on the shelf!” Use the word frequently so they get used to it and grasp its meaning.
